RICHMOND, Va. – New laws for Virginia take effect on July 1, 2025 to increase behavioral health, employer accountability and make roadways safer.
Here’s a look at the new laws that go into effect on July 1:
EmployersliabilityforsexualassaultorinjurybyemployeeTheVirginiaGeneralAssemblyhasexpandedthescopeofemployerliabilityincaseswhereemployeesoragentscommitactsofassault,sexualassault,orotherintentionalharm—particularlyagainstvulnerablevictims.Undertheamendedlaw,employerscannowbehelddirectlyliableincivilcourtwhentheiremployeescauseinjuryordeaththroughintentionalmisconduct.Previously,manyvictimswereleftwithoutaclearpathtocivilcompensation,evenincasesofsevereharm.
