Three Virginia military bases affected by Confederate name reversal
—
RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he will restore Confederate names to seven military bases.
The president made this announcement during the Army’s 250th birthday celebration at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. This action reverses the renaming process that was completed just two years ago.
Those affected in Virginia include Fort Barfoot in Blackstone, which will become Fort Pickett again, Fort Walker, which will become Fort A.P. Hill again, and Fort Gregg-Adams, which will become Fort Robert. E Lee again.
Originally, name changes came to several military bases from the Biden administration, after the death of George Floyd and calls for racial equity.
A commission created in 2021 recommended renaming nine Confederate-linked military sites. Those changes were approved a year later.
President Trump did not give a specific time frame for when the military bases will see their names changed.
