RICHMOND, Va. (WDBJ) – Governor Glenn Youngkin is facing a midnight deadline to act on legislation from the recent General Assembly session.
Monday afternoon, he revealed his plans for the state budget including tax relief, targeted spending and expansion of Virginia’s rainy day fund.
Youngkin announced his budget amendments during a briefing in Richmond. Later in an interview with WDBJ7, he said the bulk of tax relief would come in the form of $200 rebates for individual taxpayers, and $400 payments for couples filing joint returns.
“I had felt strongly that providing relief for the most hated tax in America the car tax should be the basic foundation, but we worked together with the General Assembly and agreed that this time around we will provide these one-time tax rebates, which total nearly a billion dollars,” Youngkin said in the interview.
