According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nationwide flu rates are on the rise. And here in Virginia, the state’s Department of Health is reporting an upward trend as well. Recent emergency department visits for the flu are up 9.3 percent. Other respiratory illness rates, including for COVID-19 and RSV, are currently stable.
For the week ending February 1, there were nearly 5,000 influenza A cases reported in Virginia. That’s more than double the amount of cases reported at the same time last month. Data shows many of the cases were reported in long-term care facilities and K-12 schools.
