Two Virginia children have died from the flu

Respiratory virus in the state is at a moderate level of severity and is trending downward.

A child and a teenager have died from influenza, the state health department said Monday. They are the first two pediatric flu deaths in the state this season.
Currently, respiratory virus in Virginia is at a moderate level of severity and is trending downward.
Last week, the percentage of emergency room patients with respiratory viruses was 17%, down from a high of 23% in the last week of December. Typically, respiratory virus in Virginia peaks in the late fall or early winter and drops until the summer.
The amount of respiratory virus may have already peaked, given that it has dropped for the past two weeks of available data. But there is no guarantee – virus activity can build again and peak a second time.
