Three former Virginia Beach sheriff’s deputies were indicted Friday on murder charges stemming from the death of an inmate at the city jail earlier this year.
A special grand jury indicted Eric G. Baptiste, 39, of Virginia Beach; Michael C. Kidd, 39, of Chesapeake; and Kevin B. Wilson, 34, of Virginia Beach on second-degree murder charges, according to the Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. Baptiste also was indicted on five counts of assault, and Kidd on two counts of assault.
The men are accused of causing the death of Rolin Hill, a 34-year-old Virginia Beach man who died several days after being taken to the jail on trespassing charges.
The incident leading up to Hill’s death was captured on video by dozens of cameras at the jail, and by multiple body cams worn by deputies, according to a city official who responded to a Freedom of Information Act request from The Virginian-Pilot.
