HUD Moving Headquarters to Virginia, Displacing 1,800 NSF Workers

TheDepartmentofHousingandUrbanDevelopment(HUD)isrelocatingfromWashington,DC,totheNationalScienceFoundation’s(NSF)headquartersinAlexandria,Virginia,inthefirstmajoragencytorelocateoutoftheDistrictundertheTrumpAdministration. Thisastheadministrationtriestobetterutilizefederalrealestate.  HUD’s2,700workerswillbedisplacingthe1,800employeesatNSFwhoworkatthelocationat2415EisenhowerAvenue.ThereiscurrentlynotimetableforwhenNSFwillbekickedoutandwhenHUDwillbemovingin,althoughweknowitwillbeaphased-inmoveforHUDtoensurecontinuity.  ThecurrentHUDheadquartersattheRobertC.WeaverFederalBuildinginL’EnfantPlazaissaidtobeinneedof$500millionofrepairs,withHVACleaks,poorairquality,andbrokenelevatorsamongjustsomeoftheproblems.ItisontheGeneralServicesAdministration’s(GSA)listforacceleratedsale.  HUDSecretaryScottTurnersaidthemovewillnotonlygiveHUDworkersabetterofficeenvironmentbutwillalsosavetaxpayersmoney.   “Thisannouncementundersc
