Richmond teachers rally against budget cuts, call for state audit

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) -Richmond’s teacher union rallied Monday ahead of a town hall on Richmond Public Schools’ budget proposal, hoping to prevent layoffs, summer school cuts and more.
The Richmond Education Association is also calling for the state to intervene and audit city school spending as tensions rise over the proposed budget.
Superintendent Jason Kamras says RPS already goes through an external audit every year and it is published on Board Docs, though teachers are asking for a more comprehensive breakdown.
“I’m happy to provide that, I’m not sure we’ll be able to do it all right away. It’s a 150-page document but any questions anybody has about anything in the budget, I am happy to answer to provide that information to the public, to anybody who wants,” Kamras said.
