WASHINGTON(7News)—PresidentDonaldTrumpsignedanexecutiveorderthatremovescollectivebargainingrightsforfederalemployeesinmoreagencies,amovethatcouldrippleintoVirginia’sraceforgovernor.
Theorder,issuedThursdayaheadofLaborDay,excludesworkersatNASA,theU.S.AgencyforGlobalMedia,partsoftheNationalOceanicandAtmosphericAdministration(NOAA),includingtheNationalWeatherService,andthePatentandTrademarkOffice’spatentdivisionfromthefederallaborstatute.
ItalsosweepsinunitsoftheBureauofReclamationthatrunhydropowerfacilitiesandtheInternationalTradeAdministrationattheCommerceDepartment.
Bydesignatingtheseofficesashaving“primarynationalsecurityfunctions,”theorderpreventsfederalunionsfromrepresentingtheiremployeesunderlaborlawsfirstcreatedin1978.PresidentTrump’snewexecutiveorderbuildsontheonesignedearlierthisyearinMarch.
