New Virginia laws take effect July 1, 2025

RICHMOND,Va.–SeveralnewlawstakeeffectonJuly1,2025inVirginia,addressingworkplaceaccountability,roadsafety,education,anddigitalprotectionsforchildren. Whatweknow Employerscannowbeheldliableincivilcourtiftheiremployeescommitactsofsexualassaultorintentionalharmonthejob.Protectionshavealsobeenintroducedforchildrenunder16engagedincontentcreation,requiringaportionoftheirearningstobesetasideintoatrustaccount. Anewovertimelawrequiresallstateemployerstopaytime-and-a-halfforhoursworkedbeyond40inaweek.Thestateisalsoenforcingstrongerprotectionsforpedestrians,cyclistsandvulnerableroadusers.
