CHARLESCITY,Va.(AP)—HarrisonRuffinTyler,thelastlivinggrandsonofU.S.PresidentJohnTylerborn83yearsafterhisgrandfatherlefttheWhiteHousein1845,died.Hewas96. ThecauseofTyler’sdeathonSundaywasnotimmediatelyreleased.JohnTylerwas63yearsoldwhenHarrisonTyler’sfather,LyonGardinerTylerSr.,wasborn.AndHarrisonRuffinTylerwasbornin1928whenthatfatherwas75yearsoldandthepresidentialgrandfatherhadbeendeadformorethan60years. Thegrandsonwasknownforpreservinghisgrandfather’splantationandnearbyCivilWarfort.Inastatement,AnniqueDunning,theexecutivedirectorofSherwoodForest,anationallandmarkofPresidentTyler’sresidence,saidthepresident’sgrandson,whosebrotherdiedin2020,wasa“belovedfatherandgrandfather,hewillbemissedimmeasurablybythosewhosurvivehim.” “Hewillberememberedforhisconsiderablecharm,generosityandunfailinggoodhumorbyallwhoknewhim,”Dunningsaid.
