Mourning turns to confusion as cemetery fails to prepare grave for Virginia mother on time

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (7News) — A Virginia family turned to 7News On Your Side for help after they say their mother’s burial did not go as planned.

Now, they want to ensure no one else has to experience the same heartbreak or frustration.
“So we thought everything was set,” Vera Wilkes told 7News alongside her sister, Camille Payne.
“We wanted this done today,” Payne said, referencing Saturday, Jan. 25. That was the day the sisters planned to lay their mother, 94-year-old Alice Metcalf, to rest.
“We had a lot of relatives come in from out of town,” Wilkes said.
