Drugmakers fighting hard in Virginia to keep control of medicine prices

Manufacturers of medicines such as Pfizer and Eli Lilly have spent a combined $450,000 lobbying against price caps on prescription drugs.

Three lobbyists lined up behind the lectern at a Virginia Senate committee meeting last week, intent on protecting drug companies’ control over the price of prescription medicines.
Sent by drug manufacturers and their advocates, the lobbyists spoke against a bill designed to cap the cost of certain drugs. If House Bill 1724 passes, the state would create a board of experts with the power to limit the price of certain prescription drugs. Supporters of the measure say it would help fix a broken system.
